This is our annual "Leaf Patrol" clean-up of the Bethel Church lawn and cemetery. Bethel church has been a long-time friend of Fredericksburg Cyclists. This is strictly a volunteer activity, but the more who show the faster the job gets done. That said, we generally have a good turnout and the members enjoy the camaraderie shared during the work. Come when you can and stay as long or as short a period as you need.
If you have them, please bring leaf blowers, rakes, weed eaters, small limb loppers and most importantly tarps. We drag the leaves to the tree line behind the church for dumping.
The church's restrooms will be accessible while we are there.
This is our weather make up day from last week. Please come and help us prepare the church for their Easter celebration.

I plan for us to meet at the main entrance on River Road and ride the Snuffleupagus Trail (1.9Mile) loop. This will be an introductory ride to Mott's Run and mountain biking skills. Those that want to do the loop again may or may want to side track to the Duff Green Trail or Olde Towne Trail. With this plan everyone should be able to get the amount of riding in that they want to try. Any gravel type bike or the like will work on the Snuffleupagus Trail.
Helmets are required. Mott's Run is a ride at your own risk trail. Sign in and acknowledgement of waiver a must to ride with the club for this ride.

Hopewell Church Ride
Location: 12018 Guinea Dr, Woodford, VA 22580
Come out and ride with us from Hopewell Methodist Church in Woodford, Va. Situated in a rural area just over the Spotsylvania County line, Hopewell allows us to branch out in multiple directions on safe, scenic, country roads. April through November, we break into multiple groups based on rider speed and distances. Slower groups generally go 20 to 36 miles at a 14-15mph pace, while faster riders opt for longer distances of at least 40 miles at a 16-18 mph pace.
During the normal riding season, Saturday rides feature the official No-Drop ride; however, all groups keep an eye out for newer riders and try to wait at intersections for anyone who is close behind. Look forward to riding with you!
Markings: The assorted routes are marked with colored arrows:
20-Mile route - Blue Arrows
32-Mile route - Green Arrows
40-Mile route - Yellow Arrows
50-Mile route - Red Arrows

This is a faster paced ride due to the relatively flat route. There is a section of "rollers" and one hill on the route that can be challenging, but fun. The route is well marked and several of the legs are in neighborhoods or back roads and very safe. Riders of all abilities are welcome, but the average pace for this ride is 16 - 20 mph.
Distances: 11, 17, 20 and 25. The 11 mile route is relatively flat and the 17, 20 and 25 mile routes will be more challenging.

Spouses and significant others are very welcome to attend.
The meeting is in the far back of Parklane Tavern which is on the the backside of Spotsylvania Towne Center across from Macy's.

Skyline Drive Ride
Ride Name: Skyline Drive Climbing Practice Pace: AB Meeting Location: Dickey Ridge Trailhead, Front Royal, VA (just past the National Park sign) Time: 9 am
Please read the information below carefully! It is recommended that you register for this ride and/or contact the ride leader the night before to let her know to expect you.
Come out for an early-season day of out-and-back climbing practice (and descents!) on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park.
The ride leader has a National Park pass that can cover the entrance fee for herself and three additional people. E-mail ahead of time for dibs - first come, first served. If you also have a current National Park pass please let the ride leader know ahead of time and bring it with you. Otherwise, there is a $15 entrance fee for individuals cycling in who do not have a pass.
Everybody climbs at different speeds, so the plan is to regroup at each summit before continuing. The ride leader makes absolutely no claims of being an especially speedy climber but is actively working on it (see above: "practice"); manage expectations accordingly.
We will roll at 9 am from the Dickey Ridge Trailhead. (Park along the road as you turn in, just past the National Park sign. If you reach the entrance gate, you've gone too far.)
The ride leader intends to follow the linked Pinnacles route and go to the Marys Rock Summit Trailhead (with restrooms!) before turning back to the start for a total of about 63 miles.
There will be opportunities for water refills and a stop at the Elkwallow Wayside and Marys Rock Summit Trailhead. Plan your clothing layers, nutrition, and electrolytes accordingly. Keep a challenging ride and the day's weather conditions in mind. Optional meetup location in Front Royal for post-ride food TBD.
If the weather forecast seems questionable in terms of temperature or precipitation, the call to cancel or ride will be made by 8 pm the night before.

Rapidan Ride
Date: Sunday 21 April
Time: 11AM
Location: Lenn Park, 19206 Edwin Way, Culpeper, VA 22701
This is a conversational paced 32-mile ride to the village of Rapidan along what is almost a 30-foot wide bike path with very little, if any, traffic. Veterans of the Culpeper century may recognize these roads. The route is mostly flat to slightly rolling with one easy “hill” on the return.
We will start from and return to Lenn Park (playground area) on Stevensburg Road (RT 663) one mile north of Route 3. Lenn Park has porta-potties and ample parking.
Much of the route parallels the Rapidan River which you will see once we are in Rapidan. The rest stop at the turnaround is at the old bank, now serving as the Post Office.
For those who want extra miles, an optional extension to Lignum is available (40 miles).
While riders are certainly free to maintain their own pace, the Ride Leader will be leading at a moderate pace and waiting, if necessary, for stragglers.
