Front Royal / Massanutten Ride
Start: Friday, May 31th, 0800 Location: Dickey Ridge Trailhead, Front Royal, VA 22740 Cost: Park Entrance Fee Ride Leader: Mike Schumm - mjskas1@yahoo.com We are planning a picturesque route that will take you through a stunning section of the Blue Ridge with challenging climbs and thrilling descents. Taking Skyline Drive through the Shenandoah National Park. From Front Royal, we will head South to 211 and then down to Luray. From Luray, we will climb over the ridgeline near Kennedy Peak / Massanutten Trail before heading back to Front Royal through Fort Valley. Rest stops are available at Dickey Ridge Visitor Center (water fountain/bathroom only), Elkwallow store and then stores in Luray and Fort Valley. Plan to purchase fluids and nutrition along the way.
Bring a headlight. If there is fog in the mountains, the Park Service will turn back riders at the gate.
Since everyone climbs at different speeds, the plan is too regroup at each summit to make sure we have everyone before continuing.
Shenandoah National Park has an entrance fee. Day passes can be purchased for $15. Additionally, up to four riders can enter on an annual pass. Annual Passes cost $55. Route can be found here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30096874
